Airlines for America Congratulates 2020 Nuts and Bolts Award Recipients

Former American Airlines Vice President John Beavers and Airbus Program Manager David Pappy Recognized for Outstanding Service and Achievements
WASHINGTON, October 6, 2020 – Airlines for America (A4A), the industry trade organization for the leading U.S. airlines, presented the 54th annual A4A Engineering, Maintenance and Materiel Council (EMMC) Nuts and Bolts Award to John Beavers, retired Vice President of Engineering, Training and Quality at America Airlines, and David Pappy, A320 Family Program Manager at Airbus Americas. The Nuts and Bolts Award recognizes individuals who demonstrate outstanding service and achievements in the engineering or maintenance fields within the commercial aviation industry. Presented virtually this year due to cancellation of Aviation Week Network’s MRO Americas conference, the award will be highlighted at the virtual MRO TransAtlantic conference later this month.
John Beavers
Beavers recently retired after a 45-year career with TWA and American Airlines, where he managed diverse teams responsible for powerplants, ground service equipment, tooling, facilities, inspection, quality, maintenance, oversight and more. His professional experience touched every model of Boeing transport since the B-707, as well as a variety of Lockheed, Douglas and Airbus aircraft. Of particular note, he dedicated much of his career to bringing the next generation of professionals into the industry with an eye toward increasing diversity.
David Pappy
Following a successful career with United Airlines, where he rose to manager of their Airbus fleet, Pappy brought his invaluable understanding of the complex and growing operations of U.S. carriers to Airbus. There he served airlines as a liaison with the Toulouse-based manufacturer, forming critical partnerships with customers and becoming, in the words of one carrier, “one of the most important leaders within the industry.”
Each year since 1967, the A4A EMMC has presented the Nuts and Bolts Award to individuals who have made significant contributions over an extended period of time as airline employees or individuals from other segments of the industry.
