A4A Applauds Court Decision on Schiphol Airport

WASHINGTON, April 5, 2023 — Airlines for America (A4A) applauds today’s decision by the North Holland District Court to prohibit the government of the Netherlands from reducing service at Schiphol Airport through their proposed “Experimental Regulation,” which would have unilaterally cut 40,000 aircraft movements through Schiphol.

Governments around the world simply must uphold longstanding domestic and international laws and obligations. This decision sets a critical precedent for commercial aviation as it affirms the Balanced Approach as the standard for addressing noise concerns at airports in Europe as prescribed under Dutch and EU law, Open Skies Agreements and ICAO guidance.

The aviation industry acknowledges the importance of addressing matters such as noise, but the process for doing so must be collaborative, transparent, methodical and data driven. We look forward to working with the Dutch government over the next several months to ensure that the Balanced Approach is conducted in such a manner.
