U.S. Airlines are Flying with Pride

U.S. airlines are joining worldwide Pride Month celebrations and #FlyingWithPride throughout June. Airlines for America’s carriers are committed to celebrating the diversity of team members and fostering an inclusive culture, and Pride Month offers an annual opportunity to demonstrate and highlight our support for the community.

Alaska Airlines

Alaska Airlines debuted its first-ever LGBTQ+ inspired livery as part of this month’s “Parade in the Sky,” which started in Seattle with stops in Portland, San Francisco and San Diego.

Alaska Airlines surprised passengers with celebrations and prizes on four lucky Delight Flights featuring the colorful livery, which included the message, “Fly With Pride.” Alaska will continue to fly the inclusive livery throughout its network during the coming year.

This month, Alaska also raised the inclusive Pride flag, which includes colors acknowledging the transgender community and people of color. The carrier is also featuring a collection of Pride-themed movies and TV shows, including 15 film festival shorts focusing on transgender stories, in its inflight entertainment.

American Airlines

American Airlines is featuring 23 movies to celebrate LGBTQ+ community, and adding a Pride channel for passengers to choose for inflight entertainment.

In its American Stories series, American recounted the struggle one of its employee’s faced seeking to adopt a child as a same-sex couple. Longer timeframes in the adoption process and social stigma are among the obstacles facing same-sex couples seeking to start families.

Atlas Air

Atlas Air shared this tweet to commemorate Pride Month and celebrating its “pride in carrying the world.”

Delta Air Lines

Delta Air Lines shared employee testimonials, including the LGBTQ+ community, to highlight its appreciation of a diverse global family including every race, gender, ability and orientation.

In a second video on appreciating differences, a Delta employee who identifies as lesbian spoke to challenges she faced and the support she received to be true to herself, free of stigma.

FedEx

FedEx touted investments in LGBTQ+ organizations focused on providing the greatest impact for the community to celebrate Pride Month.

FedEx supports hate crime prevention sessions and life-saving digital crisis services working with the Matthew Shepard Foundation and the Trevor Project respectively, and estimates these services will impact over 125,000 individuals by the end of 2021.

FedEx supports LGBTQ+ merit scholars with four-year scholarships thanks the Points Foundation. FedEx also sponsors the National LGBT Chamber of Commerce in an effort to promote inclusion for diverse suppliers.

Additionally, FedEx takes an active role in the distribution and volunteerism, supporting health and wellness initiatives like the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Community Services Center and the San Francisco AIDS Foundation.

Hawaiian Airlines

Although Hawaii celebrates Pride Month in October, Hawaiian Airlines tweeted in support of the LGBTQ+ celebrations this June.

The airline also tweeted video of one of its passengers popping the question inflight this month (he said yes!).

JetBlue

JetBlue tweeted a special message commemorating Pride Month and their dedication in going above and beyond creating a more equitable travel journey.

Southwest

Southwest highlighted one of its LGBTQ-owned supplier, King Nut, which supplies the snack mix served onboard, as part of its effort to champion a more diverse supply chain. The company has provided the airline snack mix since 2001.

“I know our flight attendants take great pride in serving snacks that are produced by suppliers from all backgrounds and experiences,” said Sonya Lacore, Southwest’s vice president of inflight operations.

United Airlines

United Airlines announced that United Visa cardholders will earn five total miles for every dollar up to $1,000 for donations made to the Trevor Project, the Human Rights Campaign and StartOut, an organization supporting LGBTQ+ entrepreneurs:

UPS

To commemorate Pride Month, UPS introduced a limited-edition Express Envelope to celebrate the LGBTQ+ small business community.

UPS also supports LGBTQ+ businesses through its Proudly Unstoppable campaign, which has supported in partnership with the National LGBT Chamber of Commerce 13-certified businesses with direct financial assistance.

UPS has promoted on social media several diverse businesses in this effort, including candle and fragrance company Balmori Balmori, which shares a deep dedication to advancing LGBTQ+ rights.

Air Canada

Air Canada tweeted a colorful image in support of the LGBTQ+ community and Pride Month.
