A4A To Host Annual Forum on Advances in Nondestructive Testing

Returning this September, Airlines for America (A4A) will convene the 64th annual A4A Nondestructive (NDT) Forum at the Embassy Suites Downtown Denver.

Equipment designers, technicians, vendors, regulatory authorities, aircraft engineers and manufacturers will converge to explore the latest innovations in nondestructive testing  techniques to improve airline safety, maintenance effectiveness and efficiency.

Nondestructive testing methods help ensure the longevity and safety of aircraft structures and engines. By using scientific diagnostic methods like eddy-current, ultrasound and magnetic-particle techniques, engineers can effectively assess the integrity of aircraft components.

This year, the keynote speaker will be United Airlines Technical Services Vice President John Wiitala, who is responsible for leading the technical groups that support the carrier’s aircraft configurations, operations and maintenance. This year’s event will also feature a panel discussion with select chief inspectors from major U.S. airlines.

The recipient of the A4A/SAE Nondestructive Testing (NDT) Innovation Award will be presented during the conference. The annual award recognizes the team that has developed and applied an NDT approach that advances inspection of aircraft structure, components or systems. Submissions for this year’s award are open through July 15, and this year’s winner will be chosen by representatives A4A and SAE International. Last year’s team was recognized for their novel resonance inspection approach of commercial aircraft wheels.

The event offers attendees several opportunities to network with individuals and organizations opportunity to engage on the subject of nondestructive testing with an emphasis on the airline industry.
