WASHINGTON, March 28, 2014 – Airlines for America (A4A), the industry trade association for the leading U.S. airlines, applauded the Senate’s unanimous confirmation of Kathryn Thomson as General Counsel for the Department of Transportation (DOT).
“We applaud the Senate’s unanimous confirmation of Kathryn Thompson and welcome her as the 22nd DOT General Counsel,” said A4A President and CEO Nicholas E. Calio. “Kathryn is an experienced counselor who has demonstrated sound judgment and leadership at both the FAA and DOT. Her commitment to transportation will serve the country well and we look forward to continuing to work with her as the Department tackles many difficult challenges, including advancing the NextGen air traffic management system. Her experience in environmental issues also will be important as the airline industry and the Department work with the International Civil Aviation Organization to continue to address aviation greenhouse gas emissions on a global, sectoral basis,” added Calio.
Annually, commercial aviation helps drive $1.5 trillion in U.S. economic activity and more than 10 million U.S. jobs. U.S. airlines fly 2.4 million passengers and more than 58,000 tons of cargo each day. Airlines for America (A4A) advocates on behalf of the American airline industry as a model of safety, customer service and environmental responsibility and as the indispensable network that drives our nation’s economy and global competitiveness.
A4A works collaboratively with the airlines, labor, Congress, the Administration and other groups to improve aviation for the traveling and shipping public.
