A4A Applauds Rollout of SAF Roadmap

WASHINGTON, September 23, 2022 — Airlines for America (A4A) commends the Biden Administration’s rollout of the Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) Roadmap which is a collaborative effort between the U.S. Department of Energy, the Department of Agriculture, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the Federal Aviation Administration. We all recognize that SAF is key to meeting our shared climate goals.

U.S. commercial aviation contributes about 2% of the nation’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, while transporting millions of passengers and tons of cargo each day. And, we are committed to making our operations even greener with ambitious sustainability goals. The Biden Administration and U.S. commercial carriers have committed to working together to achieve their mutual goal of making 3 billion gallons of cost-competitive SAF available in the U.S. by 2030.

“SAF development will be essential for airlines to further reduce their emissions, and A4A applauds today’s launch of the Biden Administration’s SAF Roadmap to support our shared goal of reaching net-zero emissions by 2050,” said Nicholas Calio, President and CEO of Airlines for America. “U.S. airlines have pledged to work with government and other stakeholders to make 3 billion gallons of cost-competitive SAF available to aircraft operators by 2030, and this roadmap outlines a variety of initiatives to help make that goal a reality.”

Our industry is proud to do our part today and every day to be leaders in sustainability. For more about our aggressive environmental goals and sustainability initiatives, please visit www.airlinesflygreen.com.
