U.S. Airlines Mitigate Risk in the Flight Experience

The safety and well-being of passengers and crew is our top priority, and U.S. airlines are taking extraordinary measures to mitigate risk, including:

  • Enhanced cleaning measures using CDC-recommended disinfection procedures
  • Requiring passengers to complete health acknowledgment before travel

In addition to these measures, our members also have aircraft equipped with HEPA filters, which generate air as clean as that in a hospital’s ICU.

According to researchers at the Harvard Aviation Public Health Initiative, the ventilation on airplanes is so good that it reduces the possibility of exposure to COVID-19 to a point so low that it “effectively counters the proximity travelers are subject to during flights.” Because of the frequent exchange of air on planes couple with the use of HEPA filters, over 99% of the particles containing the virus are removed from cabin air.
