Spring into Spring Travel

The flowers are blooming, the birds are singing and the sun is out! When the weather starts to turn warm, our sense of adventure kicks into full swing again. So instead of spring cleaning, why not use that renewed energy for something fun? Thanks to the U.S. airlines, a weekend exploring a new city has never been more accessible and exactly what the doctor ordered to cure those lingering winter blues.

Check out a few of our favorite springtime destinations below and hop onboard with our members this season for a trip you’ll never forget!

Portland, Oregon

If you’re looking an eclectic adventure deep in the Pacific Northwest, Portland is the place for you. Alaska Airlines will fly you straight into Portland International Airport so you can experience everything the city has to offer! Grab a cup of coffee and head to the International Rose Test Garden to explore over 550 varieties of roses, spread amongst the endless greenery. Bike through Mt. Tabor Park, a volcanic cinder cone, for a spectacular view of Mt. Hood. If you’ve worked up an appetite, stop by the Portland Farmer’s Market for the freshest vegetables, fruit, meat and farm-to-table cheese from 140 local vendors.

Charleston, South Carolina

For a taste of the south, look no further than Charleston, South Carolina. This gem of the Palmetto State is the perfect place for a tropical springtime getaway. Hop onboard with American Airlines and you’ll be sipping Mint Juleps and eating oysters by the ocean in no time! Land at Charleston International Airport and head straight to the city’s historic downtown for antique shopping on King Street. Stop by Waterfront Park for an Instagram opportunity with the famous “Pineapple Fountain” and wander around Rainbow Row to take in the colorful, colonial Caribbean-style homes. Finish the night on the waterfront, at one of the city’s many seafood restaurants, while enjoying the warm ocean breeze.

San Jose, California

After landing at Mineta San Jose International Airport with Hawaiian Airlines, you’ll be deep in the heart of Silicon Valley. Take advantage of this cutting-edge city and visit the Tech Museum of Innovation for a first-hand look at the area’s rich history and the future of technology. Next, spend the afternoon strolling around Santana Row for boutique shopping and specialty sips and snacks, accompanied by live outdoor music. If you’re looking for a laid-back afternoon of sports, grab a delicious ballpark churro and catch a game at Municipal Stadium to cheer on the San Jose Giants.

Austin, Texas

Where else can you order life-changing barbecue before swimming with salamanders in a natural, spring-fed pool? Only in Austin! Reserve your ticket with JetBlue Airways for an arrival straight into Austin–Bergstrom International Airport before kicking off the day with a few breakfast tacos. Grab your sunglasses and head to the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center to view the state’s iconic Bluebonnets that only bloom in the spring. Rent a kayak at sunset and paddle to the South Congress Avenue Bridge to watch the largest urban bat colony in North America take flight for the night. Wrap up the evening downtown to experience the Live Music Capital of the World and tunes ranging from southern soul and R&B to punk rock.

Tucson, Arizona

Venture out to the Wild West with Southwest Airlines for a spring vacation you’ll never want to leave! After flying into Tucson International Airport, put on your hiking boots and make your way through Saguaro National Park for a photo-op with the world’s largest cacti. Get a feel for the local cuisine and sample an Arizona staple: The Sonoran hot dog, topped with bacon, pinto beans, grilled onions, fresh tomatoes, jalapeño sauce, mayo and mustard, all wrapped in a soft bolillo bun. Relax for the rest of the day and play a few rounds of golf at Dove Mountain for sweeping mountain views in this beautiful desert oasis.

Boston, Massachusetts

For a city rich with history and heart, make sure to add Boston to your spring travel plans. United Airlines will start your East Coast adventure at Boston Logan International Airport, where you can begin your trip at the nearby North End, for a visit to the Paul Revere House or the New England Aquarium. Grab a slice of authentic Italian pizza before making your way to charming Newbury Street for shopping. And it wouldn’t be a trip to Boston without spending a Saturday afternoon at historic Fenway Park. Be sure to blend in with the locals by passionately cheering on the Red Sox! Finally, for an evening of the arts, don’t miss a performance by the renowned Boston Symphony Orchestra, the largest orchestral organization in the world.
