ATA Statement Regarding Tarmac Delay Task Force

STATEMENT

WASHINGTON, Nov. 12, 2008 The Air Transport Association of America (ATA), the industry trade association for the leading U.S. airlines, today issued the following statement regarding the Tarmac Delay Task Force:

The task force was charged by DOT Secretary Peters with improving airport and airline contingency plans for passenger service during lengthy ground delays and it successfully accomplished that objective. In fact, many aspects of the model contingency plan that the task force developed have already been put into practice. Government data show that there were fewer lengthy on-board delays this summer and customer complaints are down. The success of the task force clearly demonstrates that not every problem requires a new law or regulation, especially when it comes to operational and customer-service issues. The 35-member task force, comprised of airlines, airports, consumer groups and government, voted overwhelmingly in favor of the recommendations 34:1.

ATA airline members and their affiliates transport more than 90 percent of all U.S. airline passenger and cargo traffic. For additional information about the industry, visit www.airlines.org.
