Three articles published today demonstrate the airlines' strong environmental record and unwavering commitment to further reducing the industry's environmental footprint. House Aviation Subcommittee Chairman Rep. Costello (D-IL) says, “…one fact is already clear: the aviation sector is demonstrating strong leadership in taking responsibility for reducing emissions and conserving energy.” The Chairman added that Congress has a role to play, including airspace modernization and furthering research initiatives. Also reported today, Airbus CEO Tom Enders says, “We are absolutely convinced that the solution [to reducing aircraft emissions] is not new taxes, new constraints, but technology and innovation," – such innovation has already made large commercial aircraft about 70 percent more efficient than they were 30 years ago and new technology and alternative fuels could lead to further improvements.
