ATA Statement: ATA Comments on United States and China Agreement to Expand Air Service

STATEMENT

WASHINGTON, May 23, 2007 – The Air Transport Association (ATA), the trade association for the leading U.S. airlines, today issued the following statement in response to an agreement reached by the United States and China to expand air service:

“We applaud the efforts by the United States and Chinese governments in reaching an agreement that expands cargo and passenger services between both nations,” said ATA President and CEO James C. May. “While this is an important first step, we look forward to the countries ultimately establishing an Open Skies agreement.”

ATA airline members transport more than 90 percent of all U.S. airline passenger and cargo traffic.
