STATEMENT
WASHINGTON, Nov. 16, 2005 – The Air Transport Association (ATA), the trade association of the principal U.S. passenger and cargo airlines, issued the following statement regarding the Government Accountability Office Report on Air Cargo Security.
“The airlines have been proactive, on a voluntary basis, in working with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to implement a number of initiatives designed to enhance cargo security. ATA members’ top priority is to ensure the safest and most secure transportation system,” said ATA Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President John Meenan. “We are firmly committed to supporting a security solution built on a framework that identifies and prioritizes risks, yet one that is practical and cost-effective.”
ATA airline members transport more than 90 percent of all U.S. airline passenger and cargo traffic.
