ATA Statement on Mineta Continuing to Lead Transportation

 'Secretary has led with distinction,' May says

STATEMENT

WASHINGTON, Dec. 9, 2005 – James C. May, president and CEO of the Air Transport Association, made the following comments today regarding the announcement by the Bush Administration that Norman Y. Mineta will continue to serve in his post as secretary of transportation:

“The Air Transport Association and its member airlines are pleased to learn that President Bush has asked Secretary of Transportation Norm Mineta to continue to lead the Department of Transportation. Secretary Mineta has led the department with great distinction and has served selflessly during a period of enormous challenge and change in the airline industry. We welcome his continued leadership and remain committed to working with him to provide the best commercial aviation system in the world.”

ATA airline members transport more than 90 percent of all U.S. airline passenger and cargo traffic.
