Historically, fuel expenses have ranged from 10 percent to 15 percent of U.S. passenger airline operating costs, but averaged as much as 35 percent in the third quarter of 2008. This section includes historical statistics on oil and jet fuel prices, as well as airline industry consumption, expenses and fuel efficiency.
